Lt. Col. William L. Mattison
March 29, 1934 – March 14, 2015
Colonel Mattison was born in Bastrop, La. on March 29, 1934 and died March 14, 2015. He graduated from Bastrop High School in 1952 and Tulane University School of Architecture in 1957. He was commandant of cadets in ROTC, and received his commission in the United States Air Force. In April of that year, he married his forever love, Carolyn Jo Goodwin. Upon graduation, he entered active duty and was assigned to Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado. Following active duty, Colonel Mattison returned to Louisiana to practice architecture for the next fifty years. He took much pleasure from designing and hand drawing all of his plans, and from the close friendships he formed with his clients. During this time, he remained on active reserve duty representing the United States Air Force Academy as liaison officer for North Louisiana. He considered himself blessed to have enjoyed two very satisfying careers.
Mr. Mattison was a member of Grace Episcopal Church where he was active in many ministries. He served on the Vestry three times, twice as Junior Warden. His most beloved ministry was leading the Service of Morning Prayer in St. Mary’s Chapel every Wednesday morning for 42 years.
Preceding Mr. Mattison in death were his parents Bonnie and LeRoy Mattison of Bastrop, and his brother, James Burt Mattison of Amite, Louisiana.
Surviving Mr. Mattison are his wife, Jo Goodwin Mattison, Monroe, two daughters, Meredith Ames Mattison, Monroe and Blanche Mattison Reynolds and husband, David, Austin, Texas; three much loved grandchildren, Elizabeth Ames Mattison Meyer, Shreveport, Thomas Jackson Reynolds, and Mark Mattison Reynolds, Austin, Texas.
A Celebration of the Life and Service of Mr. Mattison was held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, March 20, 2015 at Grace Episcopal Church Monroe under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Monroe.
The family requests that Memorial donations be made in memory of William Mattison to the Grace Episcopal Church Children’s Chapel.
