The role at a glance:
AQ Studios Healthcare is seeking a Senior Healthcare Planner for our New Orleans Louisiana office. This individual will be an expert Medical Planner with a deep background in creating healthcare design excellence on a wide range of project scales.
Candidates should exemplify expertise in healthcare planning, design, and client relationship building. Candidates will lead the medical planning effort toward the successful completion of complex healthcare facilities; provide overall programming, master planning, design and medical planning; communicate with clients/user groups to understand project requirements; represent the firm as a technical expert. We are looking for candidates who can drive solutions while positively influence others — and can thrive in the face of changing conditions and multiple variables. Our work is in service to our clients and includes small, mid, and large-scale projects ranging from minor maintenance upgrades to large new construction undertakings.
In your new role, you will:
Leadership
- Lead medical planning efforts for our healthcare projects
- Lead master plans, visioning, and programming efforts
- Assist in growing the Healthcare Studio: work closely with the Healthcare Studio Team to continually identify and generate business opportunities that broaden the Healthcare Studio, including participation in RFQ responses and interviews
- Develops project scope of services, budget, and fee during business development and contracting process. Translates planning concepts into comprehensible terms for clients, designers and project team members
- Skilled in leadership and management of clinical user group engagements, presentations and development of deliverables
- Responsible for the design development, modification and/or review of medical planning concepts and solutions.
Responsible for maintaining overall project budgets and milestone schedules in coordination with project managers, project architects and project engineers. - Oversees the development of architectural drawings to communicate planning concepts for project documentation and construction.
Review deliverables, ensures project inter-disciplinary and quality control coordination. - Mentors and directs the work of less experienced staff.
- Has the ability to motivate and inspire teams, both internally and externally.
- Actively seeks new knowledge in the design and planning of medical and healthcare facilities.
- Advance the Healthcare practice’s reputation through conference presentations, journal articles and social media communication
- Actively participates in industry associations to ensure visibility.
Teamwork
- Participates in user groups (heads of departments, specialists, etc.) to collect program needs for healthcare facilities and assist with technical aspects of the meeting.
- Proven ability to collaborate with other Medical Planners, Architects, Interior Designers, and Project Managers from Concept Design through Construction
- Communicates planning concepts to project teams, both verbally and through graphic and written reports.
- Participates actively in the advancement of our firm-wide Healthcare practice.
- Assists in the development of standard materials that describe the portfolio, systems, processes and people of the Healthcare Studio.
- Flexibility to work on multiple projects at once and effectively manage and meet deadlines
- Plan, organize, and manage project team of internal project staff and external consultants
- Monitor project performance including hours and budgets
- Recommend correction when adjustments to scope, schedule, and fees are merited
What you will need to succeed:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in architecture or equivalent education and experience is required
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Build, and Bluebeam
- Ideal candidate is a licensed designer with 10+ years healthcare planning experience
- ACHA / CHID certification is a plus
Skills & Competencies:
- A great communicator and storyteller with an engaging and energetic personality
- Experience working in a collaborative team environment with design teams, consultants, clients
- Exceptional presentation and Listening skills
- Demonstrated excellence with issues surrounding innovative healthcare strategic planning, master planning, programming
- Advanced knowledge of healthcare delivery systems and how design impacts those systems – public/private space, adjacencies, staff and patient flow, support functions, central plant, etc.
- 10+ years of experience in the design profession with a focus in Medical Planning in all forms:
- Master Planning and Strategic Planning / Acute Care, Critical Care, and Med Surge
- Diagnostics and Treatment / Emergency Departments / Surgery Departments
- Ambulatory Surgery Centers / Behavioral Health / Nursing and SNF
- Specialty populations
- Support, Admin, and Medical Office Spaces
- Familiarity with LEAN Concepts
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience applying Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI), Joint Commission, NFPA, IBC, and ADA regulations to hospitals and out-patient facilities
- Passion for discovering and testing the latest trends in healthcare design including architectural design, manufacturer systems, and medical technology applications
- Expertise in hospital planning, logistics, renovation, infection control, phasing, life safety, and hospital facilities management maintenance concerns.
