The Architectural Studio, James Dodds AIA and Lance Malley AIA, A Professional Corporation seeks a Architectural Designer in Baton Rouge, LA. Duties: The job includes design and documentation for various types of buildings at all phases of construction projects, from preliminary design through construction. The employee will work on preliminary planning and design of projects, presentation drawings, coordination meetings with clients and consultants, drafting of plans, elevations, construction details and assisting with construction administration tasks. The preliminary planning and design phase includes collaborating with the project team to generate innovative design concepts aligned with client requirements. This phase of the project includes early planning to situate a building on a particular site, figure out general sizes and areas as well as early ideas on materials and construction means. This phase often involves early code and material research. The employee will work through ideas with a combination of hand drawn sketches and computer-generated drawings to come up with a concrete direction to meet project needs. This is approximately 10% of job time. The employee will also focus on producing high-quality presentation drawings that effectively convey design intent to clients, stakeholders, and project teams, utilizing both 2D and 3D sketching tools. These drawings will include photo-realistic renderings of finished buildings and interiors, as well as diagrammatic plans that clearly convey ideas to the clients. (10% of job time.) Coordination with structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, landscaping and civil engineers is also a key component of the job. Employee will regularly communicate with these consultants to ensure a well-coordinated design that meets all of the practical requirements of each of these trades while adhering to all necessary codes and still be well designed and aesthetically pleasing. (10% of job time) The largest job responsibility will be drafting and production of construction drawings. This will require a strong eye for detail and commitment to precision as these plans will be used for permitting, construction and material take-offs. The employee will need a strong understanding of building materials and construction techniques in order to create comprehensive, accurate construction documents. (60% of job time) Once construction begins, the employee will assist in contract administration. Responsibilities will include periodic site observations and field observation reports, responding to contractor’s requests for information, reviewing product submittals for materials and fixtures and shop drawings for items such as trusses, stairs and railings. Requirements: Bachelor’s in architecture or related. This position also requires one year of experience with proficiency in AutoCAD, REVIT, and Adobe Creative Suite applications (Acrobat, Photoshop, InDesign, etc.) is mandatory, one year of experience with 2D and 3D (Lumion, Enscape) sketching skills for creating project drawings and drafts, one year of experience in architectural design, including BIM modeling, detailed drawings, and realistic renderings, and one year of experience with building codes, standards, material specifications, and assemblies.
