Hydraulics & Hydrology Overview and Benefits of Mimicking the Natural System

When proposing to alter the natural terrain for the benefit of a project, it is important to have a holistic understanding of the hydrologic and hydraulic system being altered to ensure there will be no increase in the risk of flooding for neighboring properties. The attendees will obtain a basic understanding of hydrology and hydraulics including how changing the land type and elevations affect both, and will be shown new data and tools that are available to engineers that help in designing no-impact projects. Finally, attendees will see an example of how the rerouting of a channel has impacted flood risk for neighboring properties and a holistic solution to the problem.
