Legislative Priorities
The AIA Louisiana government relations committee and staff work throughout the year to protect the profession and advocate on behalf of Louisiana architects. AIA LA’s Government Advocacy Committee holds regularly scheduled conference calls to discuss legislation that could potentially threaten public safety, the practice of architecture and architects in general. The Louisiana General Assembly is scheduled to convene at noon Monday, April 14, 2025.
The AIA LA Board of Directors approved the following priorities for the 2025 legislative session as it relates to the profession of architecture and/or the State’s built environment (alphabetical order):
- Affordable Housing
- Building Codes / Enforcement
- Education & Workforce Development
- Historic Preservation & Adaptive Reuse
- Professional Licensure
- Resiliency & Disaster Assistance
- School Safety
- Capital Outlay and Investment in the Built Environment
- Tax Policies & Investments

The Beacon Award is presented to Legislators that exemplify what it means to be a beacon in and for the architectural profession, and built environment, not only evidenced by the votes they cast, but also by their willingness to understand the real impact public policy decisions have on the built environment in Louisiana.
