Position Description

Position: PM – PROJECT MANAGER

Responsibility:

“The PM manages contract & client satisfaction; ensuring AQ Studios budget, schedule, and standards met.”

Description: The Project Manager (PM) role is centered around meticulous management of project schedules, budgets, staffing, and seamless coordination with project architects, ensuring projects are delivered in a timely and integrated manner. This position requires a highly skilled individual, preferably a licensed architect or a designer with a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a related field, with a Master’s degree being highly desirable. The candidate must bring a minimum of 8 years of professional design experience to the role and will report directly to the project’s Studio Lead.

Expertise in Revit, SketchUp (or similar), and Adobe Creative Suite is mandatory for efficient design and documentation. The PM must also possess a deep understanding of building materials and their application in design and construction. A proven track record in managing project schedules and budgets effectively, while ensuring all activities align with the Project Success Plan (PSP) and AQ Studios Standards, is essential. This includes a demonstrated ability to deliver projects successfully, adhering to established timelines and financial guidelines, and fostering a coordinated effort among project architects to achieve comprehensive project goals.

Strong communication and presentation skills are critical for this role, enabling the PM to convey project plans, updates, and adjustments clearly to all stakeholders, including clients, team members, and external partners. Participation in the American Institute of Architects (AIA) is preferred, reflecting a commitment to professional development and adherence to industry standards. The ideal candidate will be recognized for their ability to navigate the complexities of project management with a strategic focus on timelines, budget adherence, and architect collaboration, ensuring the efficient and harmonious completion of architectural projects.

Duties:

  • Conceptualization and Design Development:
    • Work with the Studio Lead to achieve the conceptualization and development of design concepts for a range of projects.
    • Collaborate with clients to understand their vision, needs, and objectives.
  •  Project Management:
    • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
    • Manages all project agreements and ensures they are executed and fully carried out
      • Documents amendments to contract for scope changes
      • Secures regular Phase Approvals from client
      • Project Budget – Tracks and reports on the construction budget and Architect’s Opinion of Cost
      • Hours Budgeting – Tracks and manages firm’s hours spent within a budget
      • Coordinate with interior designers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
      • Invoicing – Reviews invoices to clients for progress complete and alignment with contract
      • Run and ensures that communication is documented and addressed
      • Schedule – Establishes, updates, and maintains the project schedule
      • Staffing – Coordinates with Technical Department Lead and other Project Managers
      • Consultants – Manages the selection and contracting of consultants as well as their schedule
      • Standards – Ensures that office standards are followed in the performance of the work
  • Design Documentation:
    • Produce detailed design drawings, specifications, and material selections.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.
    • Review and approve design documentation produced by junior team members.
  • Client Relations:
    • Manages the relationship; establishes communications and weekly updates
    • Present design concepts and project progress updates to clients confidently and professionally.
    • Address client feedback and incorporate changes as necessary.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Mentor and guide junior designers, providing feedback and support for their professional growth.
    • Collaborate effectively with other design team members, architects, and contractors.
    • Foster a collaborative and creative work environment.
  • Trend Research and Innovation:
    • Stay updated on industry trends, materials, and technologies.
    • Integrate innovative and sustainable design solutions into projects when appropriate.

Characteristics of the Position:

  • Team player, collaborating with many parties inside and outside the office
  • Has long list of project experience and deep knowledge of the firm’s standards
  • Able to balance and prioritize multiple tasks and projects competing for his / her time
  • A licensed architect with >8 years’ experience or un-licensed professional with >15 years exp.
  • **Note that often on smaller to medium size projects, a Project Manager is ALSO the Project Architect
